The Julien Bayou affair continues to provoke reactions within his political party, Europe Ecologie les Verts. The former national secretary of the party is accused of psychological violence against his former partner. David Cormand MEP thinks “the party has failed in this story” on BFMTV antenna this Saturday night.
“It was a moment of media turmoil that put collective regulation aside. Our responsibility was to do it, we have to recover,” says the MEP.
“I think that the collective, the political party has not been able to understand the situation in such a way that the victim is protected and that the person involved can benefit from a framework that guarantees to be heard,” declares the chosen one, although although the internal cell of the party is notable for several shortcomings.
A framework that is not set
David Cormand claims to be “in a fight against patriarchy”, but especially deplores the lack of framework in Julien Bayou’s departure from the political party. “The responsibility of an institution such as a political party is to ensure that these struggles take place within the usual criteria of respect for the rule of law,” he underlines.
“I think we were failing collectively,” said the European-elect. “We are in a framework that is not established,” according to him.
For him, the internal unit that collects testimonies of sexist and sexual violence, “experiences situations, you have to accept that it is something new and (…) it is improving.”
