Chega asks the Directorate General of National Defense Resources for an audit

Chega’s leader announced this Saturday that he has asked Parliament for an audit of the Directorate General of National Defense Resources and the IdD Portugal Defense company regarding the resignation of the Secretary of State for Defense.

“We have carefully analyzed the contracts brought in by the press and also the various reports from the Court of Auditors, which already mentioned suspicious situations in the defense, and today we have made a request to Parliament that the Directorate-General for Defense Resources and IdD Portugal Defense are subject to a strict external audit supervised by the Court of Auditors,” André Ventura announced to journalists in Torres Vedras.

The president of Chega, who spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the Feira de São Pedro de Torres Vedras, also asked for the hearing, before the parliamentary vacation, of Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho, who had the defense portfolio in the years 2018 to 2021 to which the facts relate, in order to determine political responsibilities.

For Chega: “It is still necessary to determine whether the defense minister [Helena Carreiras] whether he was aware of many of these facts and why he decided to blindly trust Secretary of State Marco Ferreira, when several facts already pointed to a suspicion”.

André Ventura criticized the Prime Minister for allegedly knowing the suspicions surrounding the case and not acting, justifying that “the one who removed the Secretary of State from his position was the Public Prosecution Service and the Judicial Police”, when they entered the home of Marco Capitão Ferreira searched. .

António Costa’s criticism also concerns the questionnaire to government officials about possible incompatibilities, as it is only applied to new ones and not to current ones, concluding that it is “absolutely harmless and ineffective”. and that “it was only an instrument to please the President of the Republic and the opposition parties and was of no use”.

For the leader of Chega, this case “does not honor the government and the institutions”,

After 13 resignations in 15 months of administration, Chega’s leader challenged the prime minister to use the summer to consider a possible government renewal in September, replacing leaders who “are in a situation that endangers authority and prestige”. from the government”.

“I think unfortunately [o ministro das Finanças] Fernando Medina must be replaced,” he illustrated.

“If that happens, I think we can look ahead and say we’re going to make it to the end of the legislature, otherwise we won’t make it to the end of the legislature,” said André Ventura, who reiterated his intention to pass a new motion in September. to submit a disapproval.
