One hundred and fifty PS executives signed in the JDD a platform called “Refoundations”, a prelude to a “third way”, between the pro-Nupes line defended by the first secretary Olivier Faure and that of his opponent Hélène Geoffroy, for the next PS congress.
The spokespersons for this platform are the mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, the councilor of Paris Lamia El Aaraje, -close to Anne Hidalgo-, and the vice-president of the Occitanie region, Claire Fita, -close to Carole Delga-.
Neither the mayor of Paris nor the president of the Occitanie region, both refractory to Nupes, have signed this platform, but many relatives of the two women are there, such as senators David Assouline or Patrick Kanner, to maneuver for this “third via”. . The date of the next PS Congress will be known at the end of a national party council on Tuesday night.
The PS congress in the spotlight
“What is at stake in the congress of the Socialist Party cannot be reduced again to a clash of stables for power, nor to a choice of electoral tactics with an eye on the next presidential elections,” write the signatories, who ” they want to rally the socialists on the essentials so that they can hope to bring the left back together in the long run.”
They point out that “the nupes electoral agreement was the product of the ‘comotic’ state of the social and ecological left, a unitary electoral response expected by the people of the left in the face of their dispersion, a conjunctural response aimed at preserving their presence in the National Assembly and acting there together”.
But “to recover and create a positive dynamic, of hope and conquests (…) it is necessary to refound (the left) with audacity and sincerity, and change its current center of gravity that leads it to a dead end”, they add -they, by proposing “to all the political and committed forces of civil society and social movements, the organization of General States of social and ecological transformation”.
Launch a “credible party of the left”?
“The French tell us, we are orphans of a credible left-wing party, today we are not listening to you”, explained Nicolas-Mayer Rossignol, defending a “Europeanist, secular and universalist left”, and relying on “rurality and local experiences” of the territories led by the left.
He assures that the signatories “are not in a grudge, nor in the fight” against the First Secretary of the PS Olivier Faure, a supporter of the Nupes.
This Saturday morning, Hélène Geoffroy, socialist mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin and president of the minority current within the PS, also launched in a text entitled “Refound, reunite, govern”, the bases of her project to take the initiative . of the party at the future Party Congress.
