PR issues decree law that hopes to enable “fair pay” for foresters

This Wednesday, the President of the Republic promulgated a decree law amending the legal regime applicable to foresters and defining the state aid they can benefit from, hoping that it will allow “fair and timely payment” for the work performed.

In a note published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic on the Internet, the Head of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, announced that he had accepted this government diploma “in the hope that the entrenched solutions allow fair and timely payment of all public service work actually rendered, including that of an additional nature”.

This Decree-Law, approved by the Council of Ministers on June 1, “amends the legal regime applicable to forest engineers, teams and brigades of forest engineers in mainland Portugal, with the aim of allowing the creation of new teams where it is technically appropriate to improve territorial coverage”.

“In addition, the maximum amount of annual support for the operation of teams of forest engineers is changed and the role of training and professional experience of forest engineers who are part of the teams receiving support is strengthened. With the current legal and regulatory framework applicable is managing fires in rural areas,” reads the communiqué of this meeting of the Council of Ministers.

At the time, Environment and Climate Action Minister Duarte Cordeiro said support for forestry teams would be increased, taking inflation into account, from €45,000 per team per year to €55,000.
