“We are going to appeal to the Constitutional Court,” André Ventura said at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Lisbon, expressing his optimism for a victory on appeal.
“We have had a wide range of decisions in recent months in which Chega was right. The TC should not comment until the parties’ internal appeals have been exhausted,” he said.
While explaining that the party has not yet been notified of the TC’s decision, Ventura assured that “the situation of the party remains exactly the same and all bodies remain until a final decision”.
The Constitutional Court (TC) on Friday declared the appeal for Chega’s V National Convention invalid, following a challenge from the party’s number three militant, Fernanda Marques Lopes, who had already appealed to the party’s National Jurisdiction Council but was denied no reaction.
With the invalidation of the notification, the decisions taken by this convention are therefore ineffective, including the election of new bodies and the re-election of André Ventura as president.
