Carlos Lopes Pires is the new Secretary of State for Defense. The Presidency of the Republic announces this afternoon on its official online page that it has accepted the Prime Minister’s proposal for the place of Marco Capitão Ferreira, drawn up as an argument in the context of the Perfect Storm trial.
The inauguration of Carlos Alberto Raheb Lopes Pires is scheduled for next Thursday at 7 p.m. in Palácio de Belém, it can also be read.
Carlos Lopes Pires, diplomat, graduated in International Relations from ISCSP and with a master’s degree in European Studies from the London School of Economics, was born in Beirut in 1973.
He is married and the father of two daughters, according to the curriculum available in parliament.
At the end of 2019, he became director of the Strategic and Defense Intelligence Service (SIED).
In the field of Defense, he was a Defense Advisor at DELNATO, holds a 2nd class National Defense Medal and received a commendation from Defense Minister Nuno Severiano Teixeira.
Carlos Lopes Pires was also a deputy in the cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luís Amado, in the socialist government of José Sócrates (2010 and 2011) and was also a deputy in the cabinet of Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho (between 2011 and 2013) .
