Luís Montenegro responded to Fernando Medina’s interview with Público on Tuesday, in which the finance minister revealed that the mortgage loan subsidy would be extended to more families and said he wants the bank to offer a flat rate to those who already have credit.
The PSD chairman recalled the package of measures proposed by his party on February 14: “Interest subsidies, negotiating loan terms, combining fixed rates with variable rates.”
“Measures had to be taken to mitigate the effects of the increase in monthly mortgage payments. The measures are springing up like mushrooms. The government is delaying solutions. Everything works too slowly, too slowly, too late. We must anticipate problems and solutions,” criticized the social-democratic leader, who is in Madeira.
Montenegro also commented on the drop in demand for savings bonds, considering it predictable. “We had already warned that the rate cut would have this effect. The government must stimulate saving and must not lag behind the interests of the bank.
