7983 teachers will leave in 2023 under precarious circumstances. “It’s the biggest contract in the last 18 years”

This year, 7,983 teachers will be hired and come from precarious circumstances, Health Minister João Costa announced this Tuesday.

“Hiring teachers offers a way out of uncertainty and salary repositioning. Salary improvements vary between 358 and 478 euros gross per month. There is also a significant reduction in the waiting time to hire, the average of which is 16 years.

“2005, 2016, 2017 and 2018 were the years when there were more appointments and less than half of the teachers hired this year were hired. This year they will hire more teachers than the sum of the past seven years.

“We created the possibility to dynamically link 10,500 teachers, but some did not want to participate. This process is dynamic. There are individual options,” he clarifies, about the discrepancy between the number of open vacancies and the number of teachers linked.
