Resumption of debates in the National Assembly: first tense speech by Sandrine Rousseau

The EELV deputy was interrupted during her speech in the chamber for her return to parliament on Monday, when she is at the center of several controversies. Mathilde Panot denounced unacceptable “sexism”.

“I love them conservatives, they’re so predictable, it’s nice.” As Sandrine Rousseau was called to speak in the National Assembly on Monday night, an uproar broke out in the hemicycle. On several occasions, the president of the session had to call the deputies to order.

The new parliamentary session opened in the National Assembly on Monday. After a debate on the topic of the war in Ukraine, the examination of the bill on unemployment insurance began.

“The word goes to Madame Rousseau”

Sandrine Rousseau then took the floor to support the rejection motion proposed by La France insoumise against this bill. In recent days, the MP EELV has been at the center of several controversies. First for having publicly questioned Julien Bayou for “behavior that can damage the moral health of women” and then for being booed during his speech on the sidelines of a demonstration in support of Iranian women in Paris.

During his speech in the hemicycle on Monday, the deputies made noise to interrupt his statements. The president of the session had to ask for silence several times.

“Dear colleagues, please, the floor is for Madame Rousseau and only for Madame Rousseau,” he said.

During her speech, the deputy was even forced to pause for a few seconds, looking at the elected officials who insulted her.

An unacceptable “machismo” for Mathilde Panot

In response, the president of the LFI-Nupes group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, denounced the attitude of these deputies moments later. “I notice that when women speak in the hemicycle, and in an extremely sensitive way when Madame Rousseau speaks in the hemicycle, there is a commotion, desk games, particularly from the majority and that is not acceptable,” she said.

“This sexism is not acceptable in the National Assembly,” he added.

If Mathilde Panot was applauded by the deputies from Nupes, on the other side of the hemicycle, she was booed and the deputies even left the room.
