“Resignation”: the opposition rebukes the executive on the Kohler and Dupond-Moretti cases

This Monday, Eric Dupond-Moretti was returned to justice. The accusation of number 2 of the Elysée, Alexis Kohler, was known the same day. A sequence that gave the opposition pause.

Bad day for the presidential field. This Monday was to mark the return to parliament and the affirmation of the “new method” desired by Emmanuel Macron with the launch by the latter of the website of the National Council for Refoundation (CNR) to associate the French with this political body. of consultations. . omitted.

The sequence was overshadowed by two embarrassing cases for power: the referral to the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR) of Eric Dupond-Moretti, for “illegal taking of interests” and the accusation of the secretary general of the Elysée Alexis Kohler for the same reason.

In detail, the Minister of Justice is accused of having used his position to settle accounts with magistrates whom he opposed when he was a lawyer; number 2 of the Elysée is suspected of conflicts of interest due to his links with the Italian-Swiss shipowner MSC.

Enough to give the opposition pause. And the smile on the left, which until now was the center of attention with the cases of Adrien Quatennens and Julien Bayou.

“Resignation”

“In one day, accusation of the main collaborator of the Head of State and of the Minister of Justice Keeper of the Seals. I eagerly await the calls for his resignation from the deputies of the relative majority”, ironically Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the Socialist Party ().

Mathilde Panot, leader of La France Insoumise in the National Assembly, mocked Alexis Kohler. According to the Val-de-Marne deputy, “Macron’s protégé will have to face his fear: accountability!”

Among environmentalists, Benjamin Lucas evoked a dilemma: “Between Kohler and Dupond-Moretti on the same day, President Macron must now choose: to be President of the Republic or leader of the clan.”

According to the deputy for Yvelines, in “a normal democracy”, the two men would be “removed from their duties”.

The same story with Sandrine Rousseau. “Resignation,” tweeted the green parliamentarian from Paris.

“Justice must give an impeccable appearance”

On the side of the Les Républicains (LR) party, Olivier Marleix was content to mention the case of Alexis Kohler. For the leader of the LR deputies at the Palais Bourbon, “keeping him in office at the Elysee would be an insult to the judicial institution.”

On BFMTV-RMC this Tuesday morning, Marine Le Pen judged that this case was “the responsibility of Emmanuel Macron”.

“Do you want to keep someone so sensitive […] Who is suspected of conflicts of interest?”, however, scolded the leader of the deputies of the National Association (RN) in the National Assembly.

Alexis Kohler “should not be in this position anymore,” the former presidential candidate judged at the time.

Marine Le Pen recalled her adherence to the “presumption of innocence”. However, the case of Eric Dupond-Moretti is different according to her, the latter being Minister of Justice.

However, explains Marine Le Pen, “justice must give an impeccable appearance”. “If Emmanuel Macron wants [Eric Dupond-Moretti]he just has to change his ministry,” said the deputy for Pas-de-Calais.

I am not sure that Emmanuel Macron listens to him with the same ear. At the moment, Eric Dupond-Moretti as Alexis Kohler have the support of the Elysee.
