José Prada spoke to journalists at the door of the Court of Funchal, after the presentation of the list of candidates by the PSD/CDS coalition “Somos Madeira” to the regional parliamentary elections on September 24, which will be led by the current president of the regional executive power, Miguel Albuquerque, with the leader of the center of Madeira and regional secretary of the economy, Rui Barreto, in 2nd place. “Until then, we will do everything we can to convince the Madeirans to vote for the “Somos Madeira” coalition,” he said, adding that this is the “only list that can support all Madeirans in the regional parliament.” represent”.

The secretary-general of the PSD’s regional structure, who is also a candidate for deputy, said the “Somos Madeira” coalition intends to maintain the autonomous region’s path of “stability, progress and development”. “AND [uma lista] composed of candidates for deputies from all parishes and all municipalities, who will be mobilized for a great victory on September 24,” he said, reiterating that “elections are only won on election day.”

The first 34 places on the “Somos Madeira” coalition list include 30 elements from the PSD, ten of which are new, and four from the CDS-PP. The centrists have supported the regional government in a coalition with the PSD since 2019, when the social democrats lost their absolute majority for the first time by electing 21 deputies (out of a total of 47 regional deputies).

The leader of the CDS-PP and regional secretary for economics, Rui Barreto, ranks 2nd on the list, led by the president of the PSD and head of the regional executive, Miguel Albuquerque, which also includes centrists José Manuel Rodrigues belong , current President of the Legislative Assembly (15th place), Lopes da Fonseca (23rd) and Gonçalo Pimenta, President of the public company Madeira Parques (31st).

In the regional elections held on 22 September 2019, the PSD lost an absolute majority in the Regional Legislative Assembly of Madeira, which it had held since 1976, and formed a coalition government with the CDS-PP (three deputies). In this election act, the PS elected 19 deputies, the JPP three and the PCP one.
