Marcelo hopes that the coming school year will be “less hectic”.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, hopes that the next academic year will be “less hectic” than the previous one and guarantees that the diploma on teacher career development will be adopted soon.

“We will all wish that the next school year was less hectic than the pandemic school years and less hectic than part of the last school year”the head of state told journalists in Faro ahead of the game between Portugal and the United States in preparation for the France 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Asked about the establishment of the diploma on teachers’ career progression, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that “it is a matter of calendar”.

“Several matters have now been dealt with in time, but I think it is not a matter of many days,” said the president of the republic about that diploma.

Asked about a decision on the package of housing measures, the president of the republic said that “it’s probably the same, it’s a matter of not many days”.

The “More Housing” package of measures includes tax incentives, stipulating that whoever moves a house from the AL to lease it is exempt from IRS on rent for several years, and there are also no limits on the definition of rental value. On the other hand, in areas of urban pressure, the AL will be subject to an extraordinary contribution of 20% – which is levied on a portion of the income generated and whose calculation takes into account the average rental values and the income of the property Good .

About the career of teachers, the president of the republic admitted on July 30 to introduce the new government diploma, on the understanding that it leaves “a door ajar” to accelerate teachers’ careers.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had previously vetoed the government diploma, but the executive approved changes to the council of ministers.

According to the President of the Republic, the new diploma establishes that the measures taken by the government “in various conjunctures, namely in future legislatures, do not prejudice the steps that can be taken, taking into account what has already been acquired”.
