The Public Prosecution Service is investigating the spread of false news by the leader of Chega

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) confirmed on Monday that it is investigating the spread of false news by Chega leader André Ventura on social networks, using images similar to those used by the media.

“The receipt of a complaint regarding the case referred to has been confirmed. It gave rise to an investigation at the DIAP in Lisbon, the purpose of which is to collect the elements and to establish the factual and legal circumstances of the case said an official PGR source, in response to Lusa.

Last week, sources from the Renascença group and the newspaper Público told Lusa that they had been the target of false news spread by André Ventura on social networks and today the Social Communications Regulatory Agency (ERC) said it was preparing a report on the matter. have received topic.

Questioned on the subject at a press conference, Chega’s president this Monday defended that the party acted “within the law” regarding the allegation of disclosing misinformation on its social networks, denying that there had been any “unlawful act ” was committed.

“We are absolutely aware that we have acted within the law and that we have the law on our side. We will await the decision of the ERC on this matter with complete tranquility,” he defended, reiterating: “We will wait to the ERC a When the ERC makes a decision, we will be here to comment. At this point, our lawyers tell us that we are perfectly protected within the law, Chega has not committed any unauthorized act.”

Ventura rejected that it was fake news, indicating that “they came from Folha Nacional”, the newspaper created by the party and created by Chega associates and leaders.

Chega’s leader insisted that this publication “now has three images, with three sections”, despite the fact that Folha Nacional’s website does not contain images similar to André Ventura’s and on the party’s social networks.

Some of the images published by Ventura are signed by “redação”, while on the website of the party newspaper they usually have the designation “Folha Nacional” in the signature, and none of these publications have an associated link to the original article.

Regarding the publication titled “Thousands of WYD subscribers missing. Illegal immigration, specialist says”, which appeared on André Ventura’s page with images similar to those of the Renaissance, it does not appear on that radio’s website and is also not possible to find in a generic internet search.
