The representative of the PAN candidate for the parliamentary election in Madeira, Marco Gonçalves, was hospitalized due to a fall that occurred over the weekend, the party said on Monday, adding that the diagnosis is “reserved”.
“It is with concern and hope that we report that Marco Goncalves had an accident this weekend resulting in a fall that left him unconscious.”says the PAN in a statement.
That is what the party reports “The doctors responsible for his care indicate that the diagnosis is reserved and that his recovery will require weeks of absolute rest, perhaps months”.
“We would like to express, on behalf of all members of our candidacy and Madeirans who believe in our values, the most sincere words of solidarity, empathy and best wishes for a speedy recovery to Marco Gonçalves”underlines the party, highlighting the representative’s “tireless dedication” and “inspiring energy”.
Marco Goncalves is 48 years old and a lawyer.
The regional parliamentary elections in Madeira are scheduled for September 24 and 13 political forces are competing (11 parties and two coalitions), namely the Portuguese Labor Party (PTP), Together for the People (JPP), Left Bloc (BE), Socialist Party (PS ), Chega (CH), React Include Integrate (RIR), Earth Party (MPT), National Democratic Alternative (ADN), Somos Madeira (PSD/CDS-PP coalition), People-Animals-Nature (PAN) , Free (L ), CDU — Unitarian Democratic Coalition (PCP/PEV) and Liberal Initiative (IL).
Mónica Freitas heads the PAN list, the name the party appointed on Thursday, August 10, replacing Joaquim Sousa.
In a statement issued at the time, the PAN justified the replacement of candidates by “an incompatibility”, which it did not clarify, between Joaquim Sousa and the party’s regional leadership, leading to the intervention, in the process, of the national leadership, which chose Monica Freitas.
In the regional elections of 22 September 2019, the PSD lost an absolute majority in the Madeira Regional Legislative Assembly it had held since 1976, electing 21 deputies and forming a coalition government with the CDS-PP (three deputies).
The PS elected 19 deputies, the JPP three and the PCP one.
