PSD Madeira leader admits agreement reached with Chega

He spoke for months “dialogue bridges”who didn’t “not complicated” is that “this stigmatization of Chega” with him “is not working, because the party has voters and its statutes and functioning have been accepted by the Constitutional Court,” but he always refused to say yes or no to the possibility of an agreement with Chega.

On June 21, Miguel Albuquerque was clearer: “Us [PSD Madeira] We don’t draw red lines”. And he even explained that Ventura’s party “is part of the game of the democratic political framework [e] must be a privileged interlocutor on any issue in all scenarios of a liberal democracy”.

66 days later, next Saturday, for the first time in an interview with New weekly, assumed that “concluding an agreement” with Chega “will depend on the outcome” of the regional elections even because “there are no early wins”.

Despite Chega’s “nationalist matrix”, centralist and anti-autonomist “tendency”, and belief that an agreement may not be “necessary”, Miguel Albuquerque clarified the position of the PSD-M, of which he is the leader, 29 days before the regional elections.

The clarification of the president of the regional government and also national leader of the PSD [é presidente da Mesa do Congresso e faz parte da Comissão Política Nacional] clashes with the promise of Luís Montenegro, the party’s national leader, who assured the ‘Portuguese’ that the PSD will not have “in government, nor policies, nor racist politicians, nor xenophobes, nor opportunists, nor populists – or political support (…) xenophobic”..

But not alone. Opening doors for Ventura’s party, for example, clashes with the certainty of Paulo Rangel, vice president of the PSD for whom ‘Agreements with Chega are an insurmountable red line’with the directness of Jorge Moreira da Silva who says: “never ever ever. It violates our values and principles and there is no compromise on that.” and also with the conviction of José Manuel Fernandes, Member of the European Parliament, who warns against this “The PSD shouldn’t be doing this, not even here in Madeira, wherever it may be, it shouldn’t be making any kind of deal with Chega.”

Recently, a social-democratic source in statements to DN did not hesitate to take this into account ‘If there is an agreement [com o Chega] let’s walk with the PS to the Europeans with the speech that the PSD has joined the extreme right. And that will not be easy to solve.”

In short: with this position, Albuquerque, who will be at PSD Summer University in Castelo de Vide tomorrow, “weakens the leadership” of Montenegro.

The “bridge” with Ventura will force Montenegro, “if Albuquerque dances with Chega”, to make a decision: ‘Condemns or assumes that the PSD can associate with a radical party’ because ‘there are no two PSDs in terms of values and principles’says the same source.

Sérgio Gonçalves, leader of the PS-M, who is not “surprised” by the clarification: deplores that “the PSD-M and the still President Miguel Albuquerque are ready to do anything to stay in power” by admitting to have “finally” concluded an agreement with “an extremist party” that “does not respect democratic values” and that, like other European extremist parties, is “against autonomy” and therefore “against the autonomy of Madeira ”.

“It is a clear demonstration of a PSD without ideas that are afraid of losing their powerhe says.
