Meeting with Macron: Renaissance boss wants to temporize before “making decisions”

The Renaissance general secretary congratulates the “mood” of the meeting between Emmanuel Macron and the party leaders in an interview with the newspaper Figaro. “The new meetings will then make it possible to concretize and achieve progress for the French,” he explains.

“No conclusion should be advanced.” Two days after the meeting between Emmanuel Macron and the party leaders, Stéphane Séjourné asks “to take the necessary time before making decisions” this Friday in The Figaro. If the oppositions await concrete measures from the President of the Republic, the general secretary of the Renaissance postpones things and urges the leaders of the different political parties to “return to their elected officials and their activists to carry out the necessary consultations.”

“New meetings will then lead to concrete results and progress for the French”, continues this close friend of the Head of State, before promising: “there will be a before and after, that’s for sure”.

“Emmanuel Macron will take responsibility”

An enthusiasm that goes hand in hand with that of his field, like Olivier Véran. The government spokesman considered on Thursday in France Info that this political initiative could “mark political history.” In the same vein, Stéphane Séjourné evokes a “historic and unprecedented event”.

“To face the country’s challenges, we needed to debate more than fight. We had to propose instead of oppose,” he says.

As for the referendums, the door opened by Emmanuel Macron, “it is up to the political parties to present their proposals, converge on points and conclusions,” the MEP advances. “The President of the Republic will then assume his responsibilities”, he adds.

But is it really possible to achieve a consensus? On the one hand, the left presses to consult the French on pensions. On the other hand, the right and its extreme are doing the same on immigration.

“The goal is not to get everyone to agree on everything. But we can imagine being able to make suggestions of an institutional nature to allow Parliament and civil society to issue referendum proposals without these not being based on a prior initiative of the President of the Republic”, replies Stéphane Séjourné in the figaro. “Here is an interesting way out that would be consensual.”

For the time being, the participants in Wednesday’s meeting “initially agreed to start working on the referendum,” according to Emmanuel Macron’s entourage.
