PS says that PSD cannot admit progress in the country and has no proposals

In response to Social Democratic leader Luís Montenegro’s speech today at the PSD Summer University, in which he pointed out the arrogance towards the Socialist government for rejecting his party’s proposals, the PS Deputy Secretary General said, João Torres, told journalists that the main opposition party is “clinging to gossip” and has lost touch with reality.

“Today’s speech by the PSD leader fails to recognize, as is the custom of the main opposition party, the many strides the country has made over the last eight years and indeed many of the strides the country has made in the past eight years. this current legislature and thus since the last parliamentary elections,” said João Torres.

The socialist leader made an overview of the unemployment rate, the development of wages and pensions, textbooks and free nurseries, and countered the criticism of the main opposition party on housing and tax matters, which the PS refuses to discuss “as if a duel were being fought” . “.

“The PSD understands, since the so-called ‘Cristas Law’ passed in the Assembly of the Republic with the votes of the right, that the market is capable of solving all problems in the housing sector and in the housing market by itself and what what you can see in recent years is that this does not correspond to reality,” he thought.

The PS deputy secretary-general said that since the government took office at the end of 2015, it has developed “a new strategy for housing and state intervention,” which he says includes a new basic law for the sector, and policies that include 270 local strategies, in collaboration with the municipalities, which are being implemented and will cover more than 100,000 households.

Following the presidential veto of the executive branch’s “More Housing” package, and widespread criticism from the opposition and industry associations, Torres reiterated that the government’s strategy for this area is “fully implemented” and that the decree in Belém “failed ‘ followed that. -up and “deserves to be confirmed” in the Assembly of the Republic.

“This is done without any arrogance on the part of the Socialist Party,” he noted, adding that “the only solution to the PSD is simply to restart all the work that has been developed from scratch.”

The PSD president said today that the party is working to “win the next European elections” and defended the need to “make Portugal aware of the lack of competence” of António Costa’s leadership.

“Were these eight years worth it? What was Portugal’s evolution? (…) We had two years of pandemic, followed by two years of pandemonium,” he said.

Montenegro remembered the thirteen dismissals in the government and imagined what would be said in the media if he himself had received only three dismissals in the direction of the PSD.

“It is necessary to make Portugal aware of Dr. Antonio Costa as Prime Minister. We are showing that we are capable of running a government with more competence and more results than the PS,” he said.
