Former President of the Republic Aníbal Cavaco Silva will publish a book this month on “the behavior of a Prime Minister of Portugal so that the government can be successful,” his office announced Monday.
“The central part of the book consists of a normative essay on what should be the behavior of a Prime Minister of Portugal to make the government successful,” the same source said in a statement.
The work “The Prime Minister and the Art of Government”, published by Porto Editora, also contains a series of texts on Portugal and the European Union and chronicles on Portuguese politics.
The book has 10 chapters covering topics such as the powers of the prime minister, the choice of ministers, the presidency of the Council of Ministers, the evaluation and meetings with ministers, government reshuffles, the relationship between the prime minister and the president of the Republic and the coalition government.
The presentation of the book will take place under the responsibility of former Prime Minister and former President of the European Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso, and is scheduled for September 15 at Grémio Literário in Lisbon.
In addition to two terms as President of the Republic between 2006 and 2016, Cavaco Silva served as Prime Minister between 1985 and 1995, having won two consecutive absolute majorities in parliamentary elections.
