LFI deputies for “sobriety only”, not “turtleneck sobriety”

“We question the lack of anticipation and planning of this government,” declared the group’s president Mathilde Panot.

LFI deputies criticized the sobriety plan presented this Thursday by the Government, which “blames” the French, and proposes “ten emergency measures to get through the winter”, including blocking prices and super-benefits.

“We question the lack of anticipation and planning of this government. The energy crisis began before the war in Ukraine”, said the head of the group Mathilde Panot at a press conference.

She is outraged by a response to “a serious crisis” by “a Lépine dress-up contest” and fears power cuts this winter. “Macron offers turtleneck sobriety, we offer private jet sobriety,” added her colleague Aurélie Trouvou.

“Scarcity is Macron’s scarcity”

To “guarantee access to energy for as many as possible”, the rebels want to “block the prices of gas and electricity as well as those of a certain number of basic necessities”. To “help the most precarious and begin a true fork towards collective sobriety”, they advocate with the left-wing alliance Nupes for a tax on super-profits.

These deputies are also in favor of “progressive energy pricing”, with a quota of free energy to cover basic needs, and want to “restore regulated energy prices, in particular for companies and communities”. Among his package of measures, there is also the prohibition of “certain ultra-polluting activities” such as private jets, yachts and even luxury cars. The LFI deputies intend to “break the chaos of the energy market.”

“The failure before our eyes is that of the market. The shortage is Macron’s shortage,” according to Matthias Tavel, an LFI deputy.

The Government presented this Thursday its “chosen” sobriety plan, drawn up with the main economic and daily life sectors: a call for less heating and less lighting, encouragement of teleworking in administrations, or even an economic incentive for carpooling. The plan is broken down into dozens of initiatives, based on the voluntary participation of the actors and not on coercion.
