PCP votes against Marcelo’s trip to Ukraine

The PCP voted against authorizing the visit of the President of the Republic to Ukraine, which took place between August 22 and 25, and was favored by the remaining benches and deputies.

Last Wednesday, at the end of the Standing Committee meeting, the General Assembly of the Republic approved five trips by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa: the trips already made to Ukraine, Poland and Sao Tome and Principe, and authorizations for the head of state will go to Canada and the United States, between September 13 and 23.

With the exception of the trip to Ukraine, the other trips of the head of state were unanimously approved.

According to the constitution, “the President of the Republic cannot leave the national territory without the consent of the Assembly of the Republic or its Permanent Commission, if it is not in operation”.

Next week, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will visit Canada between September 13 and 17, on a trip to mark the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the first Portuguese in that country.

After Canada, the President of the Republic will travel to New York, in the United States, to participate in the 78th United Nations General Assembly between September 17 and 23.
