The President of the Assembly of the Republic pointed out that a new legislative session begins this Friday, with Parliament having new Rules of Procedure that allow biweekly debates with the Prime Minister and strengthen the government’s political supervision.

This position is expressed in a video published by Augusto Santos Silva, in which the President of the Assembly of the Republic also highlights this new legislative session, the second of the current term, the celebration of the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974 and the ongoing processes in parliament, as well as constitutional revision.

“The second term of this legislature begins today. It is a very important meeting from a political point of view. I would like to note that a new Rules of Order of the Assembly of the Republic will come into force, which will include biweekly debates with the Prime Minister,” noted the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Assembly of the Republic.

For the President of the Assembly of the Republic, this is a “sign of the intensification of debate and political control” or “political supervision of Parliament”.

From a legislative point of view, according to Augusto Santos Silva, “very important processes” are underway.

“A constitutional review process is underway and we will start discussing the 2024 state budget in October. It is clear that the proposed laws submitted by the government and the bills submitted by political parties are the work of will enrich the Assembly this year,” he claims. .

In his message, the President of the Assembly of the Republic also emphasizes that this legislative session “will be marked by the 50th anniversary of the April 25 Revolution – that is, the origin of our parliamentary, pluralistic democracy, as we live and cherish it “.

“The Assembly of the Republic will have a very intense celebration program for the 50th anniversary of April 25, which will in fact last until 2026, when the 50th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic will be celebrated,” he said. adds.
