Suicide of a teenager in Poissy: for Attal, the letter sent by the rectorate to the parents is “a shame”

The Minister of National Education reacted on Saturday to the letter from the Versailles rectorate sent in May to Nicolas’ parents, concerned about the harassment he was suffering.

“This letter is a shame,” declared the Minister of National Education, Gabriel Attal, after the publication of the response letter from the rectorate of Versailles to the parents of Nicolas, the teenager who committed suicide in Poissy at the beginning of September.

“We are still not up to the task. Put yourself in the shoes of Nicolas’s parents, who wrote to the institution, whose absolute role is to protect students, to inform it of the anguish experienced by their son and that he received this type of treatment. response,” the minister continued.

Given the repeated acts of bullying, his family contacted the director of his establishment. Following this report, the rectorate asked them in particular to “adopt a constructive and respectful attitude”, calling into question an “alleged harassment”.

“The fight against harassment, an absolute priority”

A few minutes before Gabriel Attal, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne had mentioned “a failure in the type of response aimed at concerned parents”, before insisting on the need to train school officers to be “more attentive to the words of the kids”.

“Since my appointment this summer, I have made the fight against bullying an absolute priority. I want 100% prevention, 100% detection, 100% reaction,” summarized the Minister of National Education on Saturday.

On Tuesday he announced that he wanted to work on creating a questionnaire distributed to students “to identify weak signals” of bullying.

An inter-ministerial response plan must be presented on September 25.
