At the end of an informal European summit organized in Prague, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron wanted to express his “confidence” in the General Secretary of the Elysee, Alexis Kohler, charged on September 23 for “illegal appropriation of interests”. The closest advisor to the Head of State is suspected of conflicts of interest due to his links with the shipowner MSC.
Asked about the reasons for keeping Alexis Kohler in the Elysée, Emmanuel Macron wanted to praise first of all “a man who for several years has spent his nights and his days in the service of the State with a dedication and integrity to which I can attest “.
A “legitimate” decision
Before assuring that Alexis Kohler has respected “the laws that were approved more than 10 years ago.” “There was no intervention in the private files,” assured the Head of State, recalling that a preliminary investigation had already closed the file for the first time.
“I consider the decision I am taking to be legitimate,” said Emmanuel Macron.
“These are not procedural decisions that should lead to administrative decisions and for me to choose my collaborators,” Emmanuel Macron ended by sweeping.
