Montenegro invites Portuguese to compare the results of the Cavaco and Costa majorities

The president of the PSD invited the Portuguese this Thursday to compare the results of the absolute majority of Cavaco Silva and António Costa, saying that the PSD “has many more reasons to be satisfied” than the PS.

Speaking to journalists before a boat trip along the Tagus River, in Escaroupim (Salvaterra de Magos), as part of the “Sentir Portugal” initiative, dedicated this week to Santarém, Luís Montenegro took advantage of a question about polls to make a to leave a broader appeal.

“Dr. António Costa and the PS have ruled Portugal for eight years – some rulers have asked for time in recent days – but this is the time for two full terms. Since April 25, it is only the second time that a prime minister has been given the opportunity to govern for so many years in a row,” he said.

Therefore, the PSD leader challenged the Portuguese, especially those who lived through the periods of the government of former PSD leader Aníbal Cavaco Silva (between 1985 and 1995) and the current government of António Costa, to make a comparison, omitting his conclusion.

“We have many more objective reasons to be satisfied with the management of the PSD and the use we have made of the absolute majority of what happens with the PS,” he reflected.

Montenegro pointed to the “absolutely spectacular recovery” in terms of economic growth and the country’s “structural transformations” in the 1980s and 1990s and pointed to examples of measures taken by Cavaco Silva’s governments, such as the 14th month for pensioners , the opening of social facilities, media to private companies or the tent eradication program.

“What we have from socialist governance is an average growth rate of less than 1% and healthcare, education and housing in a much worse time than before,” he said, adding that “it is fair” to compare similar political situations to compare. , and not the periods when Portugal received external aid or emerged from an excessive deficit procedure.

“The results of the PSD are absolutely and unequivocally superior,” he said.

Montenegro was asked about the difficulty in reaching consensus on scheduling a biweekly debate with the prime minister, initially scheduled for September 27, and reiterated his criticism of what he sees as “the political courtship” between Chega and the PS.

“Some due to haste and immaturity, others due to the use and abuse of the absolute majority make it difficult to hold the biweekly debate,” he complained, referring to the fact that Chega’s motion of censure postponed the meeting without a date . holding the debate every two weeks.

In Escaroupim, Montenegro crossed paths with a group of elderly people who had come on a tour from the Setúbal district and received kisses – even in the middle of statements to journalists –, requests to win the next elections and even other forms of praise.

“It’s very beautiful, more beautiful live than on television,” praised one of the ladies, in a position immediately supported by her friend

The president of the PSD will take a short break from his tour of Santarém on Friday to participate in the last day of the election campaign in Madeira. He leaves a word of confidence to Miguel Albuquerque, but also a call to vote before Sunday.

“During the campaign it became clear that there is no alternative to the PSD board and that there are good expectations that the results will be recognized. But people have to vote, no one wins elections with opinion polls,” he warned.

Santarém is the 14th district visited by the PSD leader as part of the ‘Sentir Portugal’ initiative, following the PSD President’s commitment at the 40th Congress to spend one week a month in the different districts of the country to spend.
