The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, will be in Rome this Tuesday to attend the civil ceremony in tribute to Giorgio Napolitano, former President of the Italian Republic (2006-2015), who died last Friday, as BFMTV has learned. The event will take place at Palazzo Montecitorio, where the Italian Chamber of Deputies is located.
A “convinced European”
On Friday, the entire Italian political class paid tribute to the memory of this historic leader of the Communist Party and promoter of European construction, who died at the age of 98.
Giorgia Meloni, leader of the post-fascist Fratelli d’Italia party and “president of the council” since October 2022, seriously presented “the deepest condolences” of her cabinet to the family of the former president.
For his part, Emmanuel Macron sent his “sincere condolences to the Italian people” on X (former Twitter), after paying tribute to a “convinced European”, whom he described as “an eminent figure in Italian politics.”
