“We want an ecology that protects the French and nature.” Emmanuel Macron, who met for the second time the Elysée Ecological Planning Council with Élisabeth Borne and the ministers concerned, revealed several dozen actions included in the Government’s ecological transition plan planned until 2027.
“It will be complemented by a biodiversity strategy that will be presented in October and an adaptation plan that will be presented in December,” declared the President of the Republic.
The Head of State asked to collaborate with farmers – in particular with the aim of reducing the use of glyphosate by 30% – with foresters for the reforestation of one billion trees in ten years, but also with overseas countries “that concentrate most of our biodiversity” to “protect our nature and our landscape”.
“Our ecology is a strategy to preserve our living environment, the richness of our biodiversity and, ultimately, our landscapes that constitute the deep identity of France,” continued the President of the Republic.
-50% carbon emissions by 2030, an “achievable” goal
On the question of the adaptation plan mentioned at the beginning of his speech, Emmanuel Macron announced in particular a budget of 700 million euros for new metropolitan RER projects, but also recalled the goal of producing one million electric cars by 2027 and the exit from coal by 2027. .
Faced with the three challenges presented by Emmanuel Macron, namely climate change, the collapse of biodiversity and the end of abundance, the president believes that the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 is still “reachable”.
Élisabeth Borne already revealed the first ideas last week, such as an additional 7 billion euros in the 2024 budget for the ecological transition and the financing of the metropolitan RER.
