PSD-Madeira leader Miguel Albuquerque welcomed the agreement with PAN as it created “a platform of stability” in Madeira.
The agreement, he said, requires “continuous dialogue” from both sides. It was an agreement negotiated and concluded in “good faith”, assured the head of the PSD-CDS coalition that won on Sunday, with 23 elected deputies (one missing for an absolute majority), the elections for the regional parliament of Madeira .
Albuquerque also left open the possibility that this concept would be extended to the Liberal Initiative (which, like the PAN, elected only one alternate). “I am available to speak to the Liberal Initiative,” he said, raising the possibility of making “specific” arrangements.
When asked why he chose to negotiate for the deputy who lacks a majority with the PAN and not with the Liberal Initiative, Albuquerque limited himself to saying that this is “a good question”: “I chose it because I have chosen.”
The PAN was the seventh most voted for force in Madeira’s regional regions last Sunday. With 3046 votes (2.25%), he managed to elect the head of the list, Mónica Fonseca.
The PSD/CDS coalition led by Miguel Albuquerque won with 53.13% (58,399 votes) and 23 regional deputies were elected, one delegate away from gaining an absolute majority.
The Liberal Initiative also gained representation in the regional parliament in these elections, with an elected deputy. It received 3,555 votes (2.63%) and was the sixth largest fighting force.
