Madeira: Sousa Real says PAN shows there are alternatives and stops Chega’s “archaic agenda”

The PAN spokesperson defended this Wednesday that her party’s parliamentary advocacy agreement with PSD-Madeira shows that there are “democratic alternatives” to absolute majorities and contributes to stopping Chega’s “archaic agenda”.

Inês de Sousa Real spoke for the first time this Wednesday about the agreement announced on Tuesday between the regional deputy elected by the PAN in Sunday’s elections, Mónica Freitas, and the president of PSD-Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque.

In the Assembly of the Republic, the sole spokesperson and deputy of the PAN, in response to a political statement by PSD deputy Sara Madruga da Costa, elected by Madeira, began to welcome that it was possible “break the totalitarianism that existed in Madeira” It is “have a more plural parliament and therefore healthier for democracy”.

Inês de Sousa Real stated that the PAN refused to position itself “in the wake of whoever shouts the loudest” against the regional executive, which is “already filled by a large opposition”, and managed to ensure that the new government led by Miguel Albuquerque is pursuing an environmental agenda.

“The day this is not met, the PAN will be here to draw the political consequences from any non-compliance”he promised.

The deputy insisted “The PAN has also dispelled the myth that governance can only be achieved in two ways: either with an absolute majority or with a vote of fear and that the devil is in fact coming and that in this case alliances or alternatives from the populist right are needed” and showed it “the Portuguese and Madeirans do have democratic alternatives”.

Note that ‘Chega’s goal was to come to power’Inês de Sousa added: “The PAN refused a governance agreement, but in fact has a parliamentary advocacy agreement because it does not turn its back on the people of Madeira and Porto-Santenses and effectively says yes to stopping Chega’s archaic, stuffy and conservative agenda.”

Following her intervention, PAN spokesperson heard PS deputy Marta Freitas, elected by Madeira, criticize the deal her party had struck, accusing them of “easily selling themselves short”.

Inês de Sousa Real asked to speak in defense of the honor bestowed upon her and took the opportunity to accuse the Socialists of not fulfilling what they had negotiated with their party on the state budget.

“Don’t worry about what a parliamentary impact agreement on Madeira is, worry about the word spoken here that is very rarely honored’, he said to Marta Freitas.

PSD and CDS-PP competed together in Sunday’s elections, through the Somos Madeira coalition, which was the most voted with about 43% of the votes, but failed to win an absolute majority with one delegate.

The PSD/CDS-PP coalition elected 23 deputies out of 47, followed by the PS, with 11, Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), with 5 elected, and Chega, with 4. PCP/PEV, Liberal Initiative, PAN and Bloco the Esquerda also achieved parliamentary representation, all with 1 elected member.
