The PAN/Madeira spokesperson admitted this Wednesday that he would resign from his position if the national spokesperson, Inês Sousa Real, does not recognize the illegality of the parliamentary advocacy agreement signed with the PSD/CDS-PP coalition, which forms the regional coalition won without an absolute majority.
“If Dr. Inês Sousa Real does not communicate today, at the end of the meeting [da Comissão Política Nacional]that what doctor Mónica Freitas did [eleita à Assembleia Legislativa Regional] Here in Madeira it is illegal, so yes, I will take serious and definitive action regarding my participation in PAN”said Joaquim Sousa.
When asked by journalists whether the drastic measure would involve a dismissal, the PAN spokesperson admitted that this hypothesis “will be on the table”, justifying that “people who respect the law cannot tolerate this kind of situation”.
Joaquim Sousa spoke at his home, where he convened a meeting of the Madeira Regional Political Commission to discuss, among other things, the parliamentary influence agreement signed with the Somos Madeira coalition (PSD/CDS-PP).
The official indicated that only two regional commissioners were present, and regretted that the deputy elected by the PAN in Sunday’s regional elections, Mónica Freitas, and the other commissioners, had not attended the meeting.
The PAN National Political Committee will meet on Wednesday evening to vote on the parliamentary advocacy agreement signed after Madeira’s regional parliamentary elections.
The PSD/CDS-PP coalition won the regional legislature on Sunday, but fell one deputy short of an absolute majority, and a parliamentary advocacy deal with the PAN was announced on Tuesday, winning a mandate.
The PAN spokesperson opined on Wednesday that the parliamentary influence deal is illegal, while the party’s elected deputy, Mónica Freitas, assured that it has “full legitimacy”.
Joaquim Sousa argued that the document should first be approved by the party’s National Political Commission and argued that, as spokesperson for the party in the region, he should have participated this Wednesday in the meeting with the representative of the Republic for Madeira, Ireneu Barreto. , who started listening to the elected parties on Sunday.
After the meeting with Ireneu Barreto, with Joaquim Sousa standing in front of the São Lourenço Palace, where the hearing took place, Mónica Freitas told journalists that the parliamentary advocacy agreement signed with the PSD/CDS-PP coalition has “all legitimacy”. , contradicting the statements of the regional spokesperson.
The elected official also emphasized that the elements heard this Wednesday are part of the regional political commission, rejecting the accusations of usurpation of functions by Joaquim Sousa.
On November 12, 2022, Sousa took office as leader of the PAN regional political committee, following single-list elections.
In July this year he was nominated as head of the party list for the regional elections in Madeira.
But on the eve of the submission of the candidacy to the Judicial Court of the District of Madeira, the PAN announced her replacement by Mónica Freitas, justifying in a statement the decision as “an incompatibility”.
Joaquim Sousa filed a lawsuit to annul the People-Animals-Nature party’s candidacy for the elections, but this was declared unfounded.
During the press conference held on Tuesday to announce the parliamentary advocacy agreement, the elected deputy said that Joaquim Sousa will no longer be the spokesperson of the regional structure, but will replace him, as he is number two in the regional party structure . assured that the matter is “already being addressed”, without offering any explanation.
