PSD must take “consequences” if it does not win the Europeans

The leader of the PSD/Madeira and the regional government, Miguel Albuquerque, defended that the party must win the next European elections, believing it must “draw consequences” if it fails to achieve a good result.

“We must win the next European Championships,” Madeira’s social democratic leader declared in an interview with RTP3’s “Grande Entrevista” program, which aired on Wednesday evening.

But if the PSD does not win this electoral event, he added: “I am part of the national bodies, I am the first to say that we must draw consequences.”

Miguel Albuquerque, who ran again for a third term as president of the regional government of Madeira, headed the list of the PSD/CDS-PP coalition that won the regional legislature on Sunday, but fell one deputy short by an absolute majority. majority, after a parliamentary interests agreement was announced on Tuesday with the PAN, which was given a mandate.

The PSD/Madeira had the presence of the national leader, Luís Montenegro, at the end of the campaign and on election night, with Albuquerque considering that visits by national leaders have “no influence” on the results.

‘It has an influence because I think the party is the same [Luís Montenegro] well done. He came to Chão da Lagoa [a festa anual do PSD/Madeira] guide the party at regional level. There’s no problem, it’s not even a very relevant issue. “I think it went well,” he said.

According to Miguel Albuquerque, this is a ‘lana-caprina’ issue.

“I think Luís Montenegro must tell this story, he must be a politician who takes risks,” he insisted, saying that the national leader “is being criticized for everything” and that all the controversies in which he is involved are “talking about to entertain”.

Albuquerque emphasized that Montenegro “did well” to come to Madeira, “showed solidarity” as national leader of the party with the regional PSD, and praised the “good proposal” for reducing taxes that he presented at the PSD return.

Asked about a possible return to political life for Pedro Passos Coelho, Albuquerque said the former leader and former prime minister was “very wronged” because he “brought the country through a very complicated situation” after a program of economic and financial adjustment. .

According to him, Passos Coelho did “patriotic work, which was later distorted”, and ultimately became a “bogeyman”.

“I don’t know what he wants to do,” he said, adding: “I think the European Championships will be very important for the new political cycle and the PSD should benefit from it.”

In Sunday’s elections in Madeira, the PSD/CDS-PP coalition elected 23 deputies, PS 11, JPP five and Chega four, while the CDU (PCP/PEV), BE, PAN and IL each elected one deputy.
