Parliamentary football team: after last year’s boycott, LFI agrees to play with the RN

To justify this decision, the rebel Éric Coquerel highlighted the fact that the RN was represented by a single elected official, unlike last year, when 4 deputies from the flame party participated in the event.

Back on the court and with all his strength. Like last year, the National Assembly football team met this Wednesday afternoon at the Émile Anthoine stadium, very close to the Effeil Tower. Also this time it was about raising funds for the “e-enfant” association that fights against cyberbullying.

In front, a team of stars, among which are some personalities already present last year such as former footballers Christian Karembeu and Robert Pirès. Nothing new then in the green square? The match was marked by a new defeat for the parliamentarians (5-3) and 14,000 euros raised for the association.

“They are rather the marginalized ones”

But this time, the rebels agreed to play with the RN, as RMC announced a week ago, unlike last year when, like the environmentalists and socialists, they boycotted the meeting, denouncing a “trivialization” of the flame party.

This change of course is explained by the number, according to the statements of the rebel Éric Coquerel on site.

“We must be 6 or 7 from La France insumise, only one from the RN. Well, they are more the marginalized than us,” he told BFMTV, although he admitted that “it is not a totally satisfactory answer.”

The elected RN in question is Alexandre Sabatou. He had already stepped on the grass last year. The other elected officials “don’t care, it’s a matter of position,” he judged on the sidelines of the meeting. In 2022, three of his colleagues were present: Emmanuel Blairy, Philippe Ballard and Julien Odoul, injured at the start of the match.
