“Next will it be Alsace?”: Tanguy deplores Macron’s speech on the “autonomy” of Corsica

Noting that the president of the Brittany region has already demanded “the same” as Corsica, the RN deputy fears that this speech will revive demands for autonomy in other French territories.

“Vain promises from politicians that can harm France.” Jean-Philippe Tanguy, deputy of the National Rally, harshly rebukes Emmanuel Macron, after the President of the Republic spoke this Thursday in Ajaccio in favor of the “entry into the Constitution of Corsica”, while advocating for a “autonomy” of the island. .

“I believe that the real problem of the Corsicans today is to finally be able to benefit from economic development, investments in culture, infrastructure, water and energy autonomy,” judges the vice president of the RN group in the National Assembly on France 2. .

“It worries me a lot”

If such a decision were to become effective – which is far from being the case at the moment, since a modification of the Constitution, outside of a referendum, must bring together three-fifths of Congress – it would create a precedent in the eyes of Jean -Philippe Tanguy. “Next it will be Alsace, the Basques, maybe the overseas territories?” he asks, pointing out that the president of Brittany, Loïg Chesnais-Girard, has already demanded “the same” as Corsica for his region.

If Emmanuel Macron advocated autonomy “neither against the State nor without the State”, this former close friend of Nicolas Dupont-Aignan is not very convinced. “It doesn’t mean anything,” he judges, before expanding:

“The fact that the President of the Republic only talks about the State, about the institutions, and never talks about our national history, about our common belonging, I must say that this worries me a lot.”

Logically, RN senators and deputies should not vote in favor of such provisions, unless there is “a will of the Corsicans that may be expressed through a local vote”, according to Jean-Philippe Tanguy. Before Parliament has to decide, local elected officials and the government must prepare “a constitutional and organic text” within six months. So, a possible favorable vote from Congress will be little. Since LR opposes autonomy, Emmanuel Macron will have to convince the entire left to approve this text.
