“It is the union of opposites, between the National Group and the Nupes, there is nothing in common.” Invited this Saturday morning by franceinfo, Franck Riester, Minister of Relations with Parliament, criticized the oppositions, “incapable of uniting”, a few hours after the rejection of the motion of censure presented against Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne.
“It is not a routine, but we can clearly see that there is no alternative majority,” the minister attacked, denouncing the oppositions “incapable of uniting to propose an alternative budget.”
Élisabeth Borne escaped this eighteenth motion of censure since her arrival in Matignon without incident, after her first 49.3 of the season so that the budget trajectory was adopted without a vote until the end of the five-year period. Introduced by Nupes, the motion received 193 votes out of the 289 needed to overthrow the government, an unsurprising result given LR’s lack of support.
Towards another 49.3?
For Franck Riester, this new motion of censure aims to “prevent the government from acting.” “When we are in the opposition, we know very well that we did not vote on the budget, but are we obliged to present a motion of censure?” He stressed.
“We are responsible for providing our country with a budgetary framework for the next three years, which will allow us to set the course of our country and at the same time maintain our commitments to Europe,” he added.
The Republicans have also “shown responsibility by not associating themselves with this motion of censure”, according to the minister, who admitted that there will “probably” be another 49.3 in the coming weeks.
