BE requests an urgent hearing for Pizarro due to the situation in hospital emergency rooms

This Tuesday, BE requested an urgent hearing from the Minister of Health on the “serious situation in hospital emergencies”, as Manuel Pizarro “cannot continue to hide behind the Executive Director of the SNS” and also “cannot shake off his responsibilities” .

“There are currently several emergencies in hospitals with severe limitations or no surgical capacity. In addition, several hospitals have already warned that other services, such as internal medicine or surgery, may interrupt their activities in the coming weeks.” BE refers to the request submitted to parliament today.

According to the blockers, “the situation is very serious, untenable and could deteriorate significantly in the coming weeks”, placing responsibility for the situation on the Ministry of Health and the government.

“The Minister of Health cannot continue to hide behind the Executive Director of the SNS and cannot continue to shrug off responsibilities like someone shaking water from their jacket. He must face the very serious situation that we are experiencing, which has been created by him and by the PS government,” BE argues.

With the aim that Manuel Pizarro would provide all clarifications on “the serious situation in hospital emergencies”, BE requested an urgent hearing of the Minister of Health in Parliament.

“The way this same government is trying to deal with the problem of emergencies in the SNS is in fact paradigmatic of the full responsibility of the PS in the accelerated breakdown of these and other responses,” he criticizes.

In recent weeks, BE requested Pizarro’s hearing due to other health concerns, for example regarding the dismissal of six midwives from Santa Maria Hospital or obstacles to abortion on the NHS.

On Friday, the Minister of Health admitted that there is a risk that some emergencies will close because doctors refuse to work overtime beyond the mandatory 150 hours, but assured that he was committed to ensuring the normal functioning of these services.

“Since then, the functioning of the services has been dependent, as it is today, on the availability of doctors to do exceptional work. Obviously I cannot say that this risk does not exist,” said Manuel Pizarro, speaking on the sidelines. the Global Health Forum.

The National Federation of Doctors (FNAM) also warned that day that “dramatic episodes are piling up, with more than twenty hospitals at risk of running out of emergency services,” with more than 1,500 doctors providing medical care across the country. statements expressing their unwillingness to work more than the legal limit of 150 additional hours per year.
