The 2024 state budget will have a global final vote in the Assembly of the Republic on November 29, the conference of parliamentary leaders decided on Wednesday.
The conclusions of the meeting were conveyed by PS deputy Palmira Maciel, who confirmed other dates already indicated at the last leadership conference: the submission of the government’s budget proposal on October 10 and the general discussion on the 30th and 31st of the same month .
Parliamentary hearings between Finance Ministers Fernando Medina and Labor Ana Mendes Godinho will take place on October 26 and 27, with the discussion on the specialty taking place between November 23 and 29, culminating in the final global votes on the document.
In an interview with TVI/CNN, Prime Minister António Costa announced on Monday evening that there will be a budget surplus in 2023 – as in 2019 – and he did not want to commit to the size of a decision on taxes for next year, saying that the Council of Ministers will meet three more times this week.
Regarding the IRS rates for 2024, Costa said that the update of the income agreement signed last year is being negotiated through social consultation and that “these negotiations will also have an impact on what the IRS measures will be”.
“I can say the following: with the young IRS there will clearly be a reduction in rates. Secondly, the general measures are highly dependent on what we are currently finalizing, the negotiations with the social partners.” ‘ he justified and ensured that the announced trajectory of further reducing the IRS will ‘certainly’ be ‘maintained’.
The state budget for 2024 is guaranteed to be approved, as the PS has an absolute majority in the Assembly of the Republic.
