“I know we tell him to come, but not this time [Zelensky esteve hoje em Granada, Espanha]he had to return to Ukraine, it only took a few hours [em Espanha]it didn’t even last until morning [sexta-feira] in Grenada”, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa told journalists upon arrival at the dinner that kicks off the 18th informal meeting of the Arraiolos Group to be held in Porto between today and Friday.
And he added: “It was therefore considered desirable to make a bilateral visit to Portugal.”
On Thursday afternoon, the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic announced that the President of Ukraine had accepted an invitation from Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to visit Portugal and that the respective teams were still “working on the date” to make this possible.
“The President of Ukraine has accepted the invitation of the President of the Republic to visit Portugal,” said a statement published on the Internet on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic.
According to the same note, Zelensky’s trip to Granada to participate in the European Political Community summit was decided “at the last minute”, meaning the visit will be “very short”, making a possible visit to Portugal not feasible at this time .
At the beginning of the week, several Portuguese media outlets announced a possible trip of Volodymyr Zelensky to Portugal on Friday, which, however, would not have been effective.
