TAP: PSD demands that the government clarify whether the restructuring plan provides for privatization

PSD Vice President Miguel Pinto Luz demanded clarification from the government on whether or not TAP’s restructuring plan aims at privatization, following “contradictory versions” from António Costa and Pedro Nuno Santos.

On the sidelines of the PSD National Council, which took place on Tuesday evening in Maia, in the Porto district, the Social Democrat told journalists that the versions of the restructuring plan presented by the Prime Minister, António Costa, and the former Minister of Infrastructure Pedro Nuno Santos are different and contradictory, a situation that is “serious” and needs to be clarified.

‘We found out from former Minister Pedro Nuno Santos in his new space for debate and political analysis [na SIC] that after all, TAP’s restructuring plan did not oblige it to be privatized,” he said.

The PSD vice-president referred to the socialist’s statements on Monday at the debut of the weekly commentary area on SIC Notícias. In the program, Pedro Nuno Santos said that the restructuring plan does not oblige the government to sell all or part of TAP’s share capital, as this is a political option.

However, the Social Democrat added that the Prime Minister had said last week that the airline’s privatization was an obligation of the restructuring plan.

“So one of two things: either the Prime Minister lies and lied to the Portuguese last week, or Pedro Nuno Santos, former Minister of Infrastructure, lied in a new space for political analysis in a media outlet,” he pointed out.

That is why the PSD wants to see TAP’s restructuring plan “clarified once and for all,” which “is anything but transparent and secret,” Miguel Pinto Luz emphasizes.

And he concluded: “We wait and wait with anticipation to see what the Prime Minister’s response will be regarding this dilemma, a dilemma that all Portuguese have seen live on two television channels.”
