“It is because it does not guarantee a recovery of purchasing power, it is because it fails the National Health Service, it is because it fails public schools and all public services and it is because it is the greatest crisis we are facing faces, namely the housing crisis, that the left bloc will vote against the 2024 state budget, which does not offer solutions that we consider important and that respond to the main problems we face today,” Mariana Mortágua said at a press conference at BE headquarters. , in Lisbon, on the OE2024 presented by the government on Tuesday.
The accusation that the blockers have leveled against the government during these last budgets, according to Mariana Mortágua, is that the socialist executive “amuses itself with a succession of tricks to deceive people”, but once “the accounts are settled” the entire government people “understand that people are getting poorer”.
The government presented the 2024 state budget (OE2024) on Tuesday, in which gross domestic product (GDP) growth is revised upwards from 1.8% to 2.2% in 2023 and downwards from 2.0 next year % to 1.5%.
The unemployment rate is being revised upwards for next year and is now expected to reach 6.7% in 2024, up from the previous 6.4%.
On inflation, the executive is slightly more pessimistic, forecasting inflation to fall from 8.1% in 2022 to 5.3% in 2023 and 3.3% in 2024.
The proposed law also provides for the best budget balance in a democracy, at 0.8% of GDP in 2023 and 0.2% in 2024.
The OE2024 proposal will be discussed and voted on generally on October 30 and 31, with the final global vote taking place on November 29.
