Diário de Notícias is included in an article signed by journalist Rui Miguel Godinho and refers to a visit by the Secretary General of the Portuguese Communist Party to the municipality of Alcácer do Sal. In the edition of October 16, 2023, Diário de Notícias publishes a different content than that action of the Secretary General of the PCP, preceded by the subtitle “Councilors in Almada against condolence vote”, which wrongly mentions the position taken by the councilors elected by the CDU in the municipal chamber of Almada, regarding the text of a vote of condolence for the victims of the ongoing conflict in Palestine, presented by the councilors elected by the PS at the municipal council meeting of Almada on October 16 2023.
Since such content does not correspond to the truth of the facts, the following clarification is required:
1. The councilors elected by the CDU in the Almada Municipal Council did not vote against the text of the condolence vote presented by those elected from the PS, because they had rejected only point one of the operative part of the text presented, which states: “Condemn the mass murders of civilians and the acts of violence committed in Israel by the terrorist group Hamas”, not without first proposing an amendment to the PS’s wording, which fully retained the original text but added a reference to the condemnation of acts of similar severity is carried out by the State of Israel, according to statements by Councilor Tiago Galveia cited by Diário de Notícias. After rejecting this amendment proposal, the CDU elected officials understood that the text as presented is partial and does not correspond to the reality of the facts. Therefore, they asked for a point-by-point vote on the proposal, after voting on this point alone. a negative feeling.
2. The councilors elected by the CDU approved all remaining points of the deliberative part, as well as the recitals of the text proposed by the councilors elected by the PS, contrary to what the published news makes clear.
3. The adoption of the recitals and the remaining points of the deliberative part of the text testify in a clear and distinct manner to the position of vehement condemnation of the ongoing violence in that area of our planet, of solidarity with all the victims of that process, and of regret for the thousands of losses of life that the conflict has already caused, which have been adopted without any hesitation by the councilors elected by the CDU.
4. It is also important to emphasize that the councilors elected by the CDU voted in favor of a new condolence vote presented by the councilor elected by the Left Bloc, thus reiterating their deep regret over the recent events in parliament strengthen. Gaza Strip and throughout Palestine.
