Health controversy. Montenegro asks Marcelo for an urgent hearing

The PSD leader asked the President of the Republic for an urgent hearing because he was deeply concerned about the warning of the Executive Director of the National Health Service (SNS) about the possibility of a “dramatic November” in the sector.

Luís Montenegro said he had already spoken by telephone on Tuesday with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to whom he requested an emergency hearing, which he said could take place on Wednesday.

“Concerning the intervention of the Executive Director of the SNS, we see with great, great, great concern what the main person responsible for managing the system, the SNS, is saying to the country, because it immediately seems to us that this is a cry of inability, impotence to solve the organization of the SNS, especially the emergency component”said the Social Democratic leader, addressing journalists after visiting Chaves Hospital.

Or else – he continued – “It is a cry of desperation so that the political power, the government, the Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister can effectively provide operational conditions to a board of directors that took a year to get its articles of association approved and which apparently cannot is.” comfortable with the situation he has in front of him”.

The executive director of the National Health Service warned in an interview with the Público newspaper that if doctors do not reach an agreement with the government, November could become the worst month of the last 44 years on the SNS.

Fernando Araújo believed that doctors should claim rights, “but in a way that is ethically irreproachable”.

For the PSD leader, Fernando Araújo’s statement on the month of November, which falls in seven days, is a reason to “upset the Portuguese population in a transversal way”.
