The opposition, which had rejected the 2023-2027 budget planning bill in committee, partially undid this text in the Assembly on Tuesday, rejecting key articles against the government’s advice, predicting a tough battle over the budget. “What happened here tonight is serious!” Public Accounts Minister Gabriel Attal was outraged at the end of the debate amid general uproar. “The message that has been sent is that a coalition of irresponsibility has returned the image of a country that is incapable of setting itself the goal of controlling its public spending,” he let himself go, furious. “You do not have, Mr. Minister, the right to treat the deputies as irresponsible”, immediately replied the head of the elected communists André Chassaigne. “You behave like an insolent person who does not respect national representation,” he added.
