The PS on Tuesday thanked Marta Temido for her “excellent term” as health minister, saying it would be “a miracle” if everything had always gone well and stressed that it is always necessary to “go on”.
“The PS today, in a public and unequivocal way, would like to thank Dr. Marta Temido, thank you for the years she has headed the Ministry of Health,” said deputy and PS leader Porfírio Silva in a comment in the Second Chamber on the resignation of the minister was announced this morning.
Porfírio Silva particularly highlighted the “terrible years” of the covid-19 pandemic, as Marta Temido was “present every day, every hour, as another essential worker”.
“It did well, as international institutions acknowledged. Portugal had one of the best performances in the world in the fight against the pandemic,” he praised.
The deputy and member of the National Secretariat of the PS also stressed that Marta Temido “belonged to the PS governments that reversed the cycle of divestment in the SNS”.
“Thank you, Dr. Marta Temido, that’s the word the Portuguese and the PS have for you,” he said, adding that the minister “had an excellent mandate and gave her everything.”
When asked whether the PS admits flaws in these health minister’s mandates, Porfírio Silva admitted that “it is impossible for a government or a ruler to do all there is to do for the country”.
“You must always keep doing it, a path has been made, it would be an extraordinary miracle if in the midst of the circumstances everything had always gone excellent (…) There is certainly more to do, the minister himself worked in new ways organization of the SNS,” he emphasized.
