PCP criticizes the right to “bring back old and dusty stories” such as November 25

The PCP Secretary General accused the right this Monday of resorting to “lies and slander” to divert attention “from the most transformative aspects” of April 25, criticizing it for “recovering old and stuffy stories” like November 25.

‘At a time when we are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of one of the greatest moments in our history [25 de Abril de 1974]The reactionary right is multiplying its efforts to divert attention from the most structural and fundamental aspects of the transformations of the revolution.”accused Paulo Raimundo.

The PCP leader spoke at Casa do Alentejo, in Lisbon, during the launch session of the seventh volume of ‘Obras Escolhidas de Álvaro Cunhal’, which brings together texts written by the historic communist leader between 1976 and 1977, namely his report to the VIII Congress of PCP.

Paulo Raimundo argued that, “resorting to lies, slander, misrepresentation and manipulation, especially with regard to the role of the PCP in the most diverse moments of its history”to the “Reactionary forces do not hesitate to shake up and restore old, outdated narratives” when the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution is celebrated.

“This is the case of the recurring recovery after the counter-revolutionary coup of November 25”he said.

Paulo Raimundo quoted Álvaro Cunhal and said on November 25, 1975 “There was no coup on the part of the left, no attempt to seize power”with emphasis on the date “It marked a major defeat for the military left”But “It did not represent the final defeat of the revolution, as some quickly concluded”.

“The truth is that the far right and its occasional allies, who bet everything on the civil war, the illegalization and suppression of the PCP, have suffered a serious defeat and have failed to achieve their objectives.”emphasized Paulo Raimundo.

This defeat, the PCP leader continued, led to “the relative isolation” of the far right and, despite the “intense anti-communist campaign,” which included “bomb terrorism,” allowed the PCP to participate in a provisional government that approved the reforms. Constitution of the Republic, “with profound progressive content, advanced and committed to the achievements and values of the revolution”.

The Secretary General of the PCP regretted that after this executive power, when the first constitutional government was formed under the leadership of Mário Soares, the PS launched a “counterrevolutionary process” and a “counterrevolutionary process.” “Policy Offensive of Capitalist Restoration and Monopoly Restoration””betraying your program”.

This policy, Paulo Raimundo defended, was intensified with Portugal’s accession to the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1986, but this did not happen. “those idyllic scenarios in which European integration was seen as the panacea for all ills”.

‘Let us look at the loss of sovereignty, at the destruction of the productive fabric and at the privatizations, at the impositions, at the restrictions, at the threats, at the obstacles, and we will soon realize that no bazooka can solve the problems compensate. everything we lost”he said.

The PCP leader defended that these policies continue to this day – led by PS, PSD or CDS governments, and also promoted by IL and Chega – and criticized the current socialist absolute majority.

For the leader of the PCP, a government that chooses to privatize TAP and Efacec, that “gives in to employers’ demands and maintains low-wage policies” or that, instead of controlling the prices of essential goods, “opts for patches and false solutions”, is not at the service of the population.

“A government like this, with these fundamental options that involve PSD, CDS, Chega and IL in everything, is not actually putting itself at the service of the workers, the people and the country, but rather at the side and in the service of groups economic”criticized.
