President Emmanuel Macron will receive the presidents of the political groups of the National Assembly on Thursday at the Elysee to discuss the pension reform project carried out by the government and the presidential majority, BFMTV learned on Wednesday.
The President of the Republic will meet in particular with Aurore Bergé (president of the Renaissance group), Laurent Marcangeli (Horizons), Philippe Vigier (MoDem and Independents), as well as a deputy for each of the other eight groups. The meeting is set for 9:30 a.m.
Three days of consultations for Elisabeth Borne
The head of government Élisabeth Borne must also begin three days of talks on pensions with all the presidents of the parliamentary groups, both in the National Assembly and in the Senate. These will also start this Thursday.
The challenge will be, in particular, to coordinate the schedule of the reform and test the balance of forces in a context where the presidential majority is only relative to the National Assembly and where opposition to the project is heard. This situation could lead the government to activate article 49, section 3, known as “49.3”, to approve its reform, compromising the responsibility of the government.
