The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, took office on Tuesday, in a note published on the official website, pending the request for resignation from Health Minister Marta Temido and the proposal to appoint his replacement.
“The President of the Republic was notified by the Prime Minister earlier today” [terça-feira]on the intention of the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, to end her duties, a position which she has accepted”, reads a text on the Presidency website entitled “Note on the intention of the Minister of Health to to terminate functions”.
The text then states that the “President of the Republic awaits the formalization of the request for resignation, as well as the proposal for the appointment of a new holder”, according to the provisions of the Constitution.
Marta Temido tendered her resignation because she understood she “no longer had the conditions” to hold the position, which was accepted by the prime minister.
“The Health Minister, Marta Temido, today resigned to the Prime Minister because she understands she can no longer remain in office,” reads a note sent to editors in the early hours of Tuesday.
