The President of the Republic has promulgated the government diploma that changes the extraordinary support for families to pay rent, which will be increased by 6.94% in 2024, according to a note published on the website of the presidency on Thursday.
During the Council of Ministers on October 26, the government decided not to impose a brake on rental prices in 2024, which will be updated by 6.94%, after approving measures to strengthen support for tenants.
Contrary to what happened in 2023, when a limit was placed on updating the value of rents – which increased by 2% instead of the 5.43% resulting from the law -, in 2024 there will be no there are more such restrictions. , where the government has chosen to strengthen support for tenants with an income up to the sixth income tax bracket and an income tax rate above 35%.
As a way to soften the impact of updating rental prices, the government has approved a measure that automatically updates the extraordinary income support, adding 4.94% of the value of monthly income, granting this increase even if this implies that the current maximum amount of aid is exceeded (which is 200 euros).
In addition, tenants who do not currently receive extraordinary rental support, but see their effort rate exceed 35% at the update planned for 2024, can request to be covered by the measure, provided that their contract expires in March. 15, 2023.
In practice, a rental contract of 700 euros will increase to 748.58 euros per month in 2024 due to inflation. For a contract worth 900 euros, the increase is 62.46 euros.
In addition, the value of the rent that can be deducted from the tax authorities will increase from the current 502 euros to 550 euros in 2024, with this measure being universally applicable, i.e. aimed at all tenants with a rental contract.
According to current legislation, the 6.94% rent increase in 2024 applies to both urban and rural areas.
