The Minister of Finance sent the PS faction a possible withdrawal in the increase of the IUC for older vehicles, arguing that the government presented its position in the budget.
Fernando Medina was asked about this issue by PSD, Chega, PCP and BE during a parliamentary hearing at the Budget and Financial Committee (COF), in the context of the specialty phase of the 2024 State Budget (OE2024).
Without a definitive answer, the Minister of Finance emphasizes that there are issues that the government has presented in its state budget proposal.
“We are now in the specialty phase and proposals are coming in from the various factions. Naturally, the PS faction will carry out this assessment of all proposals that come in and of its own proposals,” he said in response to Chega’s deputy. André Ventura on whether the PS is willing to change the proposal for the Single Circulation Tax (IUC), after the PSD questioned the government official about it and received no answer.
PCP deputy Duarte Alves pressed the issue, but Fernando Medina did not respond, so BE delegate Mariana Mortágua asked for clarification on the matter.
“The government supports the proposal it has made regarding the increase of the IUC by 25 euros” per year, he said, adding that the executive has already admitted corrections that would clarify the maximum ceiling and that “this is the position of the government on this issue”.
However, he pointed out that “the PS faction will evaluate all proposals it has to submit and all proposals that come in.”
