BE says it is necessary to respect the Prime Minister’s decision to take over the infrastructure portfolio

The BE coordinator opined on Wednesday that the resignation of Infrastructure Minister João Galamba was “too late” and defended the need to respect the decisions of the Prime Minister of a government whose days are numbered.

“João Galamba was unable to continue as minister for a long time and his resignation came too late. Right now we have a government that is resigning and will end its functions before the elections on March 10; the management of this government is the responsibility of the Prime Minister, Minister, also resigned”said Mariana Mortágua, speaking to journalists in Setúbal.

“That is why I think we must welcome and respect the decisions taken in the short-term management of the government, of a government whose days are numbered by the determination of the President of the Republic.”he added.

For the BE coordinator, “What was important was that this government [do PS] use the months he has left in office to solve the country’s structural problems”.

“This applies to infrastructure, just as it applies to healthcare. And what is important is that there is political will to solve the problems, namely the problems with health professionals, and to reach an agreement with doctors, so that the National Health Service (SNS) has the capacity to deal with all difficulties in responding to the month of December”said Maria Mortágua, who spoke to journalists after visiting the Hospital de São Bernardo in Setúbal.

“If nothing is done and doctors cannot work, we will see a rush of SNS professionals. And this means that Setúbal Hospital, and all other SNS hospitals, will have much more difficult conditions to start the year 2024. It should be the government’s responsibility to prevent this. And that is why we are warning and presenting proposals to prevent this in this state budget.”warned the BE coordinator.

Faced with the Socialists’ decision to withdraw the proposal to increase the Single Circulation Tax (IUC), Mariana Mortágua said it was a measure that “it should disappear because it was misunderstood by the population”.

“It is incomprehensible that the government leaves the bank – which made more than two billion profits in the first nine months of the year – without tax on extraordinary profits, but insists on the principle of introducing a tax on older cars, they It’s 25, 50 or 100 euros, it doesn’t matter [o valor]. It is not by punishing people that an environmental transition can be achieved, especially when the government refuses to introduce a sensible tax on the profits of banks or energy companies.”he defended.

‘I regret that the Socialist Party and the government have delayed the entire process [de debate do Orçamento de Estado] in the specialty to recognize this, because perhaps, if this had been recognized on the first day, we could have had more time to debate the conditions of the SNS and the answers that the Budget does not give the SNS; the housing problem and the answers the budget does not provide for housing; or the fact that the salary increases planned for 2024 cannot in any way compensate for the loss of purchasing power in recent years, condemning state workers to impoverishment.”Mariana Mortágua emphasized.

The BE coordinator also defended that the concern at the moment is whether the government will use the time it has left “trying to solve problems that the absolute majority has exacerbated over the past two years”as it is in this three month period “There are decisions that need to be made and others that should not be made.”.

“The privatization of TAP is a decision that should not be taken. I hope that the Prime Minister, who is still in office, will stop this privatization. In the field of healthcare, important decisions have to be made. And a lot still needs to be done in the field of housing. finished”recalls Mariana Mortágua.
