The Secretary General of the PCP defended this Wednesday that a “general wage increase is a national emergency” in response to the country’s main problems, during an initiative with employees of the Secil cement company in Outão, in Setúbal.
“The general increase in wages, a significant increase, is the great national emergency that responds to everything. It responds to the problem of the rise in the cost of living, it responds to the brutality of the problems we face in housing, with all its consequences. that implies,” said Paulo Raimundo.
“This is the central question that needs to be answered. And this answer will be given by the workers’ struggle, but also by our political pressure, and that is what we are trying to do,” the communist leader added.
As an example, Paulo Raimundo started with the Secil cement factory in the municipality of Setúbal, a company with “100 million euros in profits in the last five years”, but in which “the money needs to be better distributed” .
“Good that there is money, it is a sign that the company is producing, it is a sign that it is doing business. Everything is fine. What is not right is that wages are low. That is the big problem. One company like This, with a profit of 100 million euros in the past five years, is positive, but it is necessary [o dinheiro] be better distributed. And this applies to Secil, as it applies to all companies, to all sectors,” he said.
“We are demanding exactly that here: more wages, better working conditions, better conditions for every person, but also asking for a vote for the PCP and the CDU, in fact, a vote that will be decisive for the day after the elections. [legislativas de 10 de março]”, acknowledged Paulo Raimundo.
Faced with the possibility of a new “device”, which PS leadership candidate Pedro Nuno Santos left open in an interview with CNN Portugal on Tuesday, the PCP Secretary General confirmed the idea that the problem is not the form, but the content of the political proposals.
“I understand the question, I understand the journalistic importance and even the effort we make to reduce everything to the problem of form, but the problem is not in the form, but in the content. What is the policy, what are the political options, that is the big question,” he said.
“The form is worthless if there is no content. And the content of the Socialist Party’s option is what got us here over the past two years: 25 million euros in profits per day for economic groups and three million workers with less than 1,000 euros. of the gross salary per month. This is the Socialist Party’s option, which over the past two years, if there was any doubt, has become very clear,” the communist leader emphasized.
