The parliament of the Azores is failing on the budget

The Regional Legislative Assembly of the Azores failed in the region’s budget proposal, which was submitted by the government led by José Manuel Bolieiro (PSD).

The document was rejected by the combination of votes from the PS (25 deputies), Bloco de Esquerda (2), Liberal Initiative (1), i.e. 28 votes against (out of a total of 57 elected deputies).

The governing coalition parties voted in favor: PSD (21), CDS-PP (3), PPM (2). These were joined by the vote of the independent ex-Chega, with a total of 27 votes.

The PAN voter abstained, as did the Chega voter.

The Bolieiro government says it will now submit a second proposal, within a shorter period than the legal deadline (90 days).

In any case, the President of the Republic could dissolve the regional parliament and hold early elections, as he did in October 2021 when the parties in the national parliament failed to reach the OE2022.
